PM’s Climate Aide Highlights Parliamentarians’ Crucial Role in Gender Equality and Green Economy


Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, emphasized the pivotal role of parliamentarians in achieving gender equality and advancing the green economy at a press conference on Friday. The discussion was a prelude to the upcoming Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development, focusing on ‘Gender Empowerment and Green Economy’.



According to Press Information Department, Alam detailed the conference’s objectives, which include deepening the understanding of the gendered dimensions of climate change and promoting gender-responsive policies. She noted the event would gather over 20 parliamentarians from the AFPPD member countries, aiming to strengthen Pakistan’s leadership role in climate action and gender equality. The conference will explore legislative frameworks and foster collaboration to boost women’s involvement in green sectors, ensuring their access to resources and rights.



Alam further highlighted that the meeting marks the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development, emphasizing its significance in renewing commitments to gender equality and sustainable development. The discussions will cover topics like economic participation, climate change, and policymaking, with practical sessions including study visits to local centers focusing on health and climate challenges. Alam stressed that hosting the conference underscores Pakistan’s commitment to integrating gender considerations into its national climate strategies and showcases its efforts through various initiatives like the Green Pakistan Program and Climate Smart Agriculture.
