Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has directed authorities to initiate preparations for the anticipated Monsoon 2027, emphasizing a shift from emergency reaction to anticipatory planning and the implementation of climate-resilient infrastructure. During a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the focus was on reviewing the current monsoon situation, disaster-response operations, and future climate emergency preparations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting underscored the importance of technology-enabled forecasting and accountable rehabilitation. Iqbal instructed the National Disaster Management Authority, provincial authorities, and relevant departments to commence preparations immediately. Discussions also highlighted the role of plastic waste in contributing to urban flooding, leading to a call for a nationwide awareness campaign and stricter enforcement of polythene bag restrictions.
