PDP Leader Iltija Mufti Warns of “Police State” Risks in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: Iltija Mufti, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a stark warning about the potential for Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to evolve into a permanent “police state,” citing the increasing role of Indian security forces and the central government’s influence over local electoral processes.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Iltija, who is the daughter of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, expressed her concerns as the Election Commission of India (ECI) visited the region to evaluate the readiness for upcoming Assembly elections. She argued that the prevailing influence of security agencies and the New Delhi-appointed administration threatens the democratic ethos of the region, suggesting that their dominance in electoral affairs could undermine the integrity of the democratic process.
