ISLAMABAD: The President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has highlighted the critical importance of preserving the nation’s cultural heritage as the country observes World Heritage Day. In a statement, he underscored the role of cultural heritage in shaping national identity and supporting economic activities through tourism and cultural industries.
According to Press Information Department, the president noted the historical significance of Pakistan’s heritage, which spans from the early Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods to the Bronze Age Indus Valley Civilization. The rich cultural legacy of Mehrgarh, Moenjodaro, Gandhara, and the Mughal periods reflects a long-standing tradition of creativity and resilience. The president also emphasized the importance of intangible cultural heritage, such as folklore, languages, music, and crafts, which embody the collective memory and values of the Pakistani people.
The message further highlighted the diversity of traditional crafts across Pakistan, including Kashmiri embroidery, Sindhi ajrak, and the blue pottery of Multan, each contributing to the country’s cultural narrative. World Heritage Sites in Pakistan, representing the Indus civilization and Mughal architecture, serve as tangible records of the nation’s history and diversity.
The president called on government institutions, provincial authorities, local communities, and youth to collaborate in preserving and promoting the country’s heritage. The commitment to conservation, he stated, is not only a responsibility but also an opportunity to bolster tourism and economic growth.
