Finance Minister Engages AIIB President on Infrastructure Financing and Strategic Partnership

Washington, D.C: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a meeting with Ms. Zou Jiayi, President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings 2026. The discussions centered on infrastructure financing and strategic engagement between Pakistan and AIIB.

According to Press Information Department, Senator Aurangzeb congratulated Ms. Zou Jiayi on her new role and acknowledged AIIB’s involvement in Pakistan with a current portfolio of approximately USD 1.7 billion, with another USD 1 billion planned. The Finance Minister highlighted Pakistan’s re-entry into international capital markets, including a Eurobond launch after four years and the issuance of a Panda bond to diversify financing sources.

Senator Aurangzeb discussed the economic impact of the regional situation on Pakistan’s energy supply chain and outlined the country’s development frameworks, including the 10-year Country Partnership Framework with the World Bank and the 5-year Country Partnership Strategy with the Asian Development Bank. He invited AIIB to align its efforts with Pakistan’s infrastructure priorities.

Both parties noted that Pakistan’s project disbursement with AIIB was slower compared to other multilateral partners like the World Bank and ADB. The Finance Minister mentioned that the Prime Minister has set up four working committees to address project implementation challenges, focusing on compliance, land acquisition, disbursement, and procurement.

Senator Aurangzeb reiterated the Government’s commitment to enhancing institutional processes to improve project execution efficiency and reduce delays.
