Tashkent: Pakistan’s Parliamentary delegation has successfully secured membership in three key committees at the 150th Annual Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), marking a significant achievement for the country’s legislative representatives on the international stage.
The delegation, led by Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, comprises members from both houses of Pakistan’s parliament. Their participation has resulted in notable representation within the IPU’s influential committee structure.
A noteworthy highlight from the assembly is the unanimous election of Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik to the high-level advisory group focused on countering terrorism and violent extremism. This appointment positions Pakistan to play a more active role in international discussions and strategies against these global challenges.
In addition to his election, Aqeel Malik engaged in discussions with representatives from various countries. The talks provided an opportunity to share insights into Pakistan’s specific challenges, especially those related to terrorism and the impacts of climate change. The meetings underscored the importance of collaboration and mutual understanding in addressing these pressing issues.
The assembly continues to serve as a platform for member countries to exchange ideas and foster cooperation on legislative matters, highlighting the role of parliamentary diplomacy in tackling global concerns.
