Islamabad, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan and former Prime Minister, during his visit to the Palestinian Embassy in Islamabad, denounced the actions taking place in Gaza and nearby regions, referring to them as infractions of international law. He invoked global entities, highlighting their responsibilities in the ongoing crisis and calling for a resolution in line with established UN Security Council and OIC Resolutions.
According to a news release by National Assembly of Pakistan, the Speaker, during his discussions with Palestinian Emissary to Pakistan, Mr. Ahmed Jawad Rabei, pledged his unyielding support. Ashraf recalled Pakistan’s longstanding stance on the matter, saying, “Pakistani people, its Parliament and its government has always supported the Palestinian cause.” He also acknowledged the unwavering dedication of Pakistan’s past leaders, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, to the Palestinian cause, and committed to continuing their legacy of support.
Taking a firm stance on the humanitarian aspect, Ashraf articulated his concern about the cessation of aid to Gaza, terming it a breach of fundamental human rights. He lamented the perceived “double standards” concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and critiqued those drawing misleading equivalences between Palestinian victims and Israeli actions.
Expressing deep respect for the determination exhibited by the Palestinian people, especially the younger generation, in the face of adversity, Ashraf commended their resolute spirit in opposing oppression.
In response, the Palestinian Ambassador extended his gratitude to the Speaker for his unwavering stance and visit, noting the historical support from Pakistani leaders, including Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, for the Palestinian cause. The Ambassador further credited the sentiments and dedication of the Pakistani people and its leaders for boosting the courage and determination of Palestinians.
During his embassy visit, the Speaker also penned a message in the condolence book, extending his deepest sympathies to those affected by the recent conflicts and expressing hope for a triumphant emergence of Palestine from the current adversity.
