Islamabad: Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Mohamed Yahya, expressing deep gratitude for the UN’s significant support in addressing the aftermath of the devastating 2022 floods. The meeting highlighted ongoing and planned collaborative efforts under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2023-2027.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the discussion, Minister Cheema praised the UN’s role in helping Pakistan navigate the challenges posed by climate-induced disasters. The talks focused on reinforcing the strategic partnership outlined in the UNSDCF, which is pivotal in building a climate-resilient Pakistan.
The Minister and the UN Coordinator reviewed the progress and future direction under the cooperation framework, stressing the importance of continuous communication to effectively monitor and tackle emerging challenges. Minister Cheema expressed satisfaction with the establishment of Federal and Provincial Oversight committees aimed at providing strategic guidance and ensuring the effective implementation of the UNSDCF’s objectives.
The UN Resident Coordinator reassured continued technical support from UN agencies in critical areas, enhancing the collaborative efforts between Pakistan and the United Nations to achieve sustainable development and resilience against future climatic threats.
