Makkah: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye have signed the “Makkah Joint Defence Agreement” in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, marking a significant milestone in regional defense cooperation. The accord aims to bolster collective deterrence and reinforce the capacity to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the three nations.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement, also known as the Makkah Accord, reflects the deep-rooted relationships and shared values among the three countries. It is described as defensive in nature and not directed against any specific country, emphasizing a commitment to peace, security, and stability.

The accord stipulates that an armed attack against any member country will be considered an attack against all, aligning with the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The agreement underscores the importance of peaceful dispute resolution, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Foreign Office of Pakistan, played crucial roles in the development of the Makkah Accord. The agreement is seen as a testament to their leadership and vision in enhancing strategic partnerships with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
