Pakistan Rejects India’s Remarks on Kashmir and Water Dispute

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected recent remarks by India regarding the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that India’s characterizations are misleading and inaccurate.

According to Radio Pakistan, during a weekly media briefing in Islamabad, Tahir Andrabi, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contrasted the conditions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir with those in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Andrabi highlighted the systemic abuses and denial of rights in the Indian-administered region, describing it as an illegally annexed, internationally recognized disputed territory. In contrast, he stated that the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir is addressing issues within a democratic framework.

Addressing a question about a statement from India’s Water Resources Minister, Andrabi warned that any attempt by India to block water to Pakistan would contravene international obligations, particularly the Indus Waters Treaty. He emphasized that Pakistan would take all necessary actions to protect its economy and the well-being of its 250 million citizens, urging India to honor its international commitments and avoid escalating regional tensions.

Commenting on findings from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Andrabi noted that the institute’s report supports Pakistan’s concerns about India’s military advancements. He stated that Pakistan is not pursuing an arms race but remains vigilant in maintaining strategic stability and deterring potential Indian aggression.

Regarding the Middle East, Andrabi expressed Pakistan’s continued commitment to peace and diplomacy despite recent escalations, highlighting the nation’s optimism in navigating the complex regional dynamics.
