Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Defend Holy Sites Amid Senate Discussion

Islamabad: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the defense of Haramain al-Sharifain, addressing concerns raised by the Leader of the Opposition, Raja Nasir Abbas, in the Senate.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Chaudhry responded to points raised by the opposition leader, emphasizing that all legal and constitutional requirements were met regarding the imposition of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stated that the lack of cooperation from the provincial government necessitated federal intervention to address terrorism in the region.

In other proceedings, the Senate passed two condolence resolutions, honoring the late Senators Taj Muhammad Afridi and Jamal Said Mian for their contributions to democracy. The Senate offered Fateha for the departed souls and extended condolences to their families. Senator Afridi, who served from 2015 to 2021, died in a road accident on June 12, 2026. Senator Mian, who served from 1985 to 1991, passed away earlier this month.
