Islamabad, With the general elections scheduled for February 8, Pakistan is witnessing a surge in electioneering activities. Political parties and candidates are actively engaging in public gatherings and corner meetings across the country, seeking to garner voter support.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the upcoming elections will cover 266 general seats in the National Assembly and 593 seats across the four provincial assemblies. The country has a total of 128,585,760 registered voters, with Punjab leading in numbers at 73,207,896, followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and the Federal Capital Islamabad.
In the race for the National Assembly, there are 5,121 candidates, including 4,807 men, 312 women, and two transgenders. The provincial assemblies see a larger pool of 12,695 candidates, comprising 12,123 men, 570 women, and two transgenders.
These figures highlight the diversity and scale of the electoral contest, reflecting the vibrant democratic process in Pakistan.
