Pakistan Navy Commissions First HANGOR Class Submarine in China


Sanya: Pakistan marked a significant step in its naval modernization with the commissioning of the first HANGOR Class Submarine, PNS/M HANGOR, during a ceremony held in Sanya, China. President Asif Ali Zardari, serving as the chief guest, emphasized the event as a pivotal moment for the Pakistan Navy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to maintaining a balanced and credible defense posture.



According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to defend its sovereignty and safeguard its maritime interests. Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf elaborated on the capabilities of the HANGOR Class Submarines, noting their advanced weaponry, sensors, and Air Independent Propulsion system, which are expected to play a crucial role in maintaining maritime stability in the region. These submarines are anticipated to be instrumental in deterring aggression and securing Sea Lines of Communication across the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.



The ceremony underscored the enduring partnership between Pakistan and China. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir extended congratulations to the nation and the Pakistan Navy for what they termed a historic achievement.
