Dhaka: Pakistan High Commission organized an event to observe Jammu and Kashmir Black Day on October 27, 2026, expressing solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). High Commissioner Imran Haider welcomed attendees, including members of the Pakistani community, Friends of Pakistan, and media representatives.
According to Press Information Department, the event featured messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. These messages recalled the events of October 27, 1947, when Indian forces arrived in Srinagar, initiating a prolonged chapter in the region’s history. The messages highlighted the continued denial of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, as recognized in United Nations Security Council resolutions, and paid tribute to their sacrifices and commitment to justice and freedom.
The leadership expressed concerns over human rights challenges, restrictions on fundamental freedoms, and the detention of Kashmiri leaders and activists. They criticized India’s unilateral actions on August 5, 2019, which altered the region’s constitutional status. The messages urged the international community, including the United Nations and human rights organizations, to protect the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people and facilitate a peaceful resolution of the dispute.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the people of IIOJK, the leadership emphasized that peace and stability in South Asia are linked to the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Pakistan reiterated its commitment to advocating for the Kashmiri people’s rights, including their right to self-determination, at international forums.
Participants at the event showed interest in a photo exhibition depicting the hardships faced by the Kashmiri people and highlighting human rights violations and restrictions on their freedom of expression in IIOJK.
