Abu Dhabi: An event at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi marked “Kashmir Black Day,” with officials emphasizing the ongoing struggle of the Kashmiri people for self-determination. Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan highlighted the importance of international intervention in response to India’s actions in the region.
According to Press Information Department, special messages from Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were shared during the event. Ambassador Khan paid tribute to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), focusing on their efforts to achieve independence. He criticized India’s actions as violations of United Nations principles and resolutions, urging global involvement to halt state-sponsored human rights violations.
Ambassador Khan described 27 October 1947 as a pivotal moment in Kashmir’s history, marking the start of what he termed an illegal occupation by Indian troops. He argued that the occupation disregards the UN Security Council’s resolutions, which advocate for determining Jammu and Kashmir’s status through a free plebiscite. Despite India’s commitments, he noted, the plebiscite has not occurred, and recent measures aimed at altering the region’s status are seen as null and void.
The Ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people politically, morally, and diplomatically. He underscored Pakistan’s efforts to bring attention to the issue at international forums and reaffirmed the country’s dedication to the Kashmiri cause.
A documentary was also presented, showcasing the situation in IIOJK and the human rights concerns associated with the Indian security forces’ actions in the region.
