London: Pakistan High Commission hosted a “Pakistan Investment Roundtable” in London, attracting prominent investors and global financial firms. The event featured Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Minister for Finance, as the keynote speaker, alongside Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Jamil Ahmed, Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Tipu Usman.
According to Press Information Department, Senator Aurangzeb highlighted the Pakistani government’s commitment to macro-economic stabilization and sustained growth through structural reforms. These reforms are designed to empower the private sector, as evidenced by fiscal consolidation efforts that have resulted in a primary surplus, deficit reduction, revenue mobilization, and progress in institutional and fiscal reforms.
The Finance Minister elaborated on the government’s initiatives, such as State-owned Enterprises reforms, privatization, and enhancements in energy sector reforms, financial transparency, and business facilitation. These steps aim to support the vision of macro-economic stability. Senator Aurangzeb emphasized the importance of expanding the tax base and eliminating discretionary powers of tax authorities, while ensuring no new taxes on the salaried class.
Addressing the challenges faced by Pakistan’s economy, Senator Aurangzeb referred to the recent setbacks due to nationwide flooding and the impact of the Middle East conflict on global oil prices. He affirmed Pakistan’s openness to business and noted the country’s successful completion of all IMF reviews, which led to three rating upgrades.
The event concluded with an interactive session where the Finance Minister engaged with financial institution representatives, discussing Pakistan’s economic landscape, investment opportunities, and partnerships with international organizations.
