ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to lead Pakistan’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, the Foreign Office announced. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, other federal ministers, and senior officials, Sharif’s participation underscores Pakistan’s commitment to addressing pressing global and regional issues at the international forum.
According to Radio Pakistan, Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan detailed that the Prime Minister will focus his speech on Pakistan’s views regarding regional and global developments. The address will emphasize the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Key areas of discussion will include sustainable development, climate change, counter-terrorism, Islamophobia, global economic challenges, and UN reforms. Sharif will also draw attention to the situations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and Palestine.
During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif is expected to attend high-level events and engage in bilateral meetings with world leaders and the UN Secretary General, further emphasizing Pakistan’s dedication to multilateralism, the UN Charter, regional peace, and international cooperation.
In response to inquiries, Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan strongly refuted India’s assertions regarding the Pakistan-China Boundary Agreement of 1963 and the Border Joint Commission, reaffirming the validity of the agreement and highlighting the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and China. Khan reiterated the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, advocating for a resolution in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Additionally, Khan addressed concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East due to ongoing Houthi attacks, emphasizing Pakistan’s advocacy for dialogue and diplomacy as means to resolve conflicts and ensure regional stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
