Islamabad: Pakistan has firmly rejected recent accusations from India’s Defense Minister and Chief of Army Staff, asserting that Jammu and Kashmir remain a disputed territory whose status is to be resolved in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, during a media briefing in Islamabad, stated that India lacks legal or moral grounds to claim the territories of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. He emphasized that the region’s final status should reflect the Kashmiri people’s aspirations.
Addressing questions on Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, Khan dismissed notions of territorial ambitions over Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor. He affirmed Pakistan’s recognition of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while urging Afghan authorities to address terrorist sanctuaries within its borders.
Khan also highlighted ongoing engagements between Pakistan and Afghanistan aimed at fostering better ties, despite the pressing issue of terrorist sanctuaries. The spokesperson reiterated the importance of cooperation and dialogue between the two nations.
Regarding military relations, Khan noted the significance of a recent Bangladeshi military delegation’s visit to Pakistan, describing it as part of regular bilateral exchanges aimed at strengthening ties.
In response to inquiries about Pakistan-Russia relations, Khan welcomed positive remarks from Russia’s Foreign Minister, acknowledging efforts from both sides to enhance their bilateral relationship.
Finally, Khan mentioned Pakistan’s readiness to send humanitarian aid to Gaza following a ceasefire, and confirmed the Pakistani ambassador’s attendance at the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
