Pakistan Boasts the World’s Most Efficient Polio Surveillance, Asserts Health Minister

Islamabad, Pakistan prides itself on having the globe’s most robust polio surveillance mechanism, declared Caretaker Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan. The swift confirmation of the polio virus from environmental samples is a testament to the system’s effectiveness.

According to a news release by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Jan elaborated in a statement that polio remains an incurable ailment, and the sole line of defense against it is vaccination, which offers lifelong protection to children. In response to the persistent threat of the virus, the government is gearing up for a comprehensive polio vaccination drive scheduled for next month, specifically targeting areas where the virus is prevalent. Dr. Jan emphasized the importance of parents playing their part, strongly advising them to ensure their children are administered polio drops during every vaccination campaign. In a related development, the Ministry of Health disclosed a new polio case identified in Karachi, marking the fourth such instance this year.
