Pakistan Attracts Billions in Maritime Investment Proposals

Karachi: Pakistan has received investment proposals valued between six and nine billion dollars for major projects in its maritime sector, potentially transforming the country into a key regional maritime hub. The proposed investments aim to develop crucial infrastructure, including cargo, LNG, oil, and container terminals.

According to Radio Pakistan, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry highlighted the strategic importance of Pakistan’s geographical location as a driving factor in attracting these investment proposals. The Minister emphasized plans to establish Pakistan as a permanent regional maritime hub, leveraging its strategic positioning to boost economic growth.

Chaudhry reported that the maritime sector generated approximately 396 million dollars in the last fiscal year, attributing this revenue to the country’s advantageous geographic location. He underscored the government’s broader objectives to enhance the maritime sector’s contribution to the national GDP and to position it as a significant source of foreign exchange, industrial development, and employment.

The government has set an ambitious target to increase the maritime economy to 100 billion dollars by 2047, reflecting a long-term vision to expand the sector’s role in Pakistan’s economic landscape.
