Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed that comprehensive support and assistance are being extended to Pakistani detainees overseas. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, addressing queries during the Question Hour, detailed the measures undertaken by Pakistani missions abroad to aid nationals, including legal and financial support.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dr. Chaudhry emphasized that dedicated sections within these missions ensure the welfare of detainees, conducting regular jail visits, addressing complaints, and facilitating family visits. The missions maintain a comprehensive database of detained Pakistanis, aiding in their release and repatriation when possible. Additionally, efforts are ongoing to secure the release of Pakistani hostages held by Somali pirates, and no targeted actions have been reported against Pakistanis in the UAE.

In a separate response, Minister for National Health Services Syed Mustafa Kamal discussed steps to control HIV spread, attributing it to drug use and syringe misuse. He reported that over 300,000 individuals have tested HIV positive, with ongoing treatment provided at 98 centers. A new awareness campaign is planned alongside efforts to expand these centers.
