Pakistan Applauds ICJ Ruling on Measures to Protect Palestinians in Gaza

Islamabad, Pakistan has officially expressed its support for the recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the situation in Gaza. The provisional measures ordered by the ICJ aim to protect Palestinians from acts that could be categorized as genocide under the Genocide Convention.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch welcomed the ICJ’s decision, which asserts the Court’s jurisdiction to hear the case against Israel and recognizes the plausibility of South Africa’s claims of genocide. The ICJ has mandated that Israel urgently implement measures to prevent acts prohibited by the Genocide Convention, including killing or causing serious harm to Palestinians, inflicting conditions leading to their physical destruction, and preventing births within the group.

Baloch emphasized that the implementation of these measures necessitates an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza. She described the ICJ’s ruling as a timely and significant step towards achieving justice for the Palestinian people and holding Israel accountable under international law.

Pakistan’s call for the full and effective implementation of the ICJ’s decision underscores its stance on protecting the basic human rights and dignity of the Palestinian people, in line with the UN Charter, relevant UN resolutions, and international law. This development marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing pursuit of justice and accountability in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
