Islamabad: Pakistan and the United Kingdom have embarked on a collaborative effort to advance Pakistan’s mineral sector through the launch of a Geo-Science training program. The initiative, aimed at bolstering the technical skills of the Geological Survey of Pakistan, was inaugurated by Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott.
According to Radio Pakistan, the training program is part of the UK-funded REMIT initiative, designed to enhance the Geological Survey of Pakistan’s technical capacity. During the inauguration, Jane Marriott commended Pakistan’s diplomatic endeavors for peace, noting that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had recognized these efforts in the British Parliament.
Minister Malik expressed gratitude for the support from the British High Commission and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in launching the initiative. He highlighted that the program will introduce international-standard geoscience training and modern methodologies, aimed at making Pakistan more appealing to investors by strengthening institutions like the Geological Survey of Pakistan.
Malik emphasized Pakistan’s significant geological and mineral potential amid a growing global demand for mineral resources. The program is anticipated to equip Pakistani scientists with contemporary tools and enhance institutional capacity within the geosciences sector.
