Islamabad, The bonds of mutual respect and admiration for cultural heritage have long characterized the relationship between Pakistan and Korea. At the ongoing Migrant Multicultural Festival (MAMF) 2023 in Changwon city, South Korea, this bond was celebrated with vibrant performances and rich narratives by cultural troupes from both nations.
According to a news release by Press Information Department, Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Jamal Shah, who addressed the festival, expressed his delight at being a part of the cultural concert, a notable segment of MAMF 2023. The Minister highlighted that the artists from both countries act as ambassadors of their nations’ rich traditions and stories. Through music and dance, they aim to merge the tales of their lands, crafting a beautiful mosaic that transcends borders.
Shah emphasized that the event provides a stage for an enchanting amalgamation of traditional rhythms and tunes from both Pakistan and Korea. He further pointed out that the historical ties between the two countries span centuries. “Buddhism and its deep-rooted traditions were introduced to the ancient Baekje Kingdom from present-day Pakistan by Monk Maranantha almost two thousand years ago,” he said. He also mentioned that the enduring bond is evident as artists from both nations share their talents with the audience.
In the spirit of fostering cultural exchanges, Shah unveiled an exciting announcement: a Korean Cultural and Art Troupe has been extended an invitation to visit and perform in Pakistan. This reciprocal gesture is intended to offer the Pakistani populace an insight into Korean traditions, mirroring the cultural showcase from Pakistan at MAMF.
He expressed eager anticipation for the Korean troupe’s visit, viewing it as an opportunity to further deepen cultural understanding between the two countries. The Minister extended his appreciation to MAMF organizers, the City Government of Changwon, and all who contributed to the realization of the festival. “Platforms like these plant the seeds of enduring friendships, fostering harmony, unity, and mutual appreciation amongst nations,” he remarked.
Celebrating its 18th anniversary, MAMF is hosted at Changwon Yongi Cultural Park and Seogsan Art Hall, standing out as South Korea’s most significant cultural diversity event. Nations from across Asia, each presenting their unique cultures and traditions, are participating. Significantly, Pakistan leads MAMF 2023 under the theme “Pakistan Zindabad,” translating to “Long Live Pakistan.” The nation showcases its cultural richness through various mediums including traditional clothing, henna designs, and performances such as the Dhol, Anthem, Zindabad, and dances like Bhangra, Dhamal, and Luddi.
