Rome: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, engaged in a high-level meeting with Bangladesh’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Abdul Awal Mintoo, and Minister of State for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, during the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems in Rome. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation to tackle shared challenges in agriculture, livestock, and climate resilience.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting aimed at advancing sustainable agrifood systems and explored areas like agricultural trade, research, and climate-smart production. Both countries acknowledged their vulnerabilities to climate change and emphasized collaboration in One Health approaches to bolster food security and rural livelihoods. Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to mutual respect and shared development priorities, while the Bangladeshi ministers highlighted the importance of coordinated actions to address climate and environmental challenges.

The discussions also covered institutional partnerships, technical exchanges, and capacity building in the sectors of agriculture and veterinary sciences. Sultan Salauddin Tuku pointed out the critical role of fisheries and livestock in food security and nutrition, advocating for enhanced cooperation in livestock development and disease prevention. The meeting concluded with an invitation for further bilateral discussions in Pakistan, aiming to deepen engagement in agrifood systems and contribute to regional and global resilience.
