Pakistan and Australia Commit to Enhancing Tolerance and Religious Freedom


Islamabad, In a significant bilateral engagement, Pakistan and Australia have pledged to further promote tolerance and religious freedom. This agreement was reached during a meeting between Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins and Pakistan’s Minister for Law and Justice and Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions covered a wide range of issues including bilateral relations, human rights, and strengthening the rule of law.



Minister Tarar outlined ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Human Rights to bolster Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women, aiming to improve Pakistan’s gender parity index. He also highlighted initiatives aimed at structural reforms to safeguard the rights of minorities and the mainstreaming of vulnerable groups, particularly the transgender community in Pakistan. Both parties reiterated their commitment to supporting initiatives that foster tolerance, religious freedom, and respect within and across their borders.
