Srinagar, 17 Oct 2023:Despite assurances from the Modi regime about the restoration of normalcy in the disputed Jammu and Kashmir since the territory’s special status was revoked on August 5, 2019, recent events highlight a differing narrative on the ground.
The Kashmir Research Center, as reported by the Kashmir Media Service, offers data suggesting that despite strong measures taken by the Indian forces, the Kashmiri population remains steadfast in their freedom movement. Events within the month of October alone provide evidence challenging India’s claims of stability.
A summary of events in the first half of October details:
On October 2, mujahideen targeted a BJP supporter, Majid Rasheed, in Srinagar and injured three Indian troops in Kalakote, Rajouri.
Railway infrastructure was disrupted on October 3 after damage to a track near the Bijbehara Railway Station.
October 4 saw the killing of an Indian army informant in Dialgam, while two Indian soldiers were injured during an encounter in Kujjar, Kulgam. Two mujahideen also reportedly lost their lives in the same encounter.
Two additional mujahideen met their end in a separate encounter in Alshipora, Shopian.
A police officer was injured by mujahideen in the Wanpoh area of Islamabad district on October 12.
Furthermore, the Indian media’s omission of these events is viewed as an attempt to downplay the security concerns in the region. The report also questions the authenticity of India’s claims of normalcy in light of a fratricide incident on October 5 in Thanamandi, Rajouri, which resulted in the loss of three Indian officers.
