Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasized the crucial link between strengthening the Parliament and developing political consensus during a briefing to the Members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The Speaker addressed the importance of parliamentary strength in fostering the country’s development and prosperity while speaking at an official workshop organized by the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS).
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Speaker highlighted the significance of the “Charter of Parliament,” which is designed to bolster the Parliament and, by extension, enhance the country’s governance system. He remarked, “Upholding the supremacy of Parliament is essential to lead the country on the path of development and prosperity.” His comments were made during an interaction with members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, who were participating in a three-day workshop at PIPS.
Sadiq also discussed the benefits of training workshops, noting that they significantly increase the capacity of members and legislative staff in parliamentary matters. He stressed the importance of such interactions for provincial assembly members to closely observe and learn from the workings of the Parliament. Moreover, he mentioned that fostering communication between different legislative bodies would allow members to share and benefit from each other’s experiences.
The Speaker expressed optimism that provincial assemblies could also gain from initiatives like the establishment of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus and the SDGs Secretariat in the National Assembly, which are designed to promote public welfare.
The briefing was part of a larger visit where more than twenty members of the KP Assembly attended the workshop at PIPS. During the event, Advisor Legislation Mr. Muhammad Mushtaq briefed the attendees on the formation of the National Assembly Standing Committees and the legislative process.
Members of the KP Assembly expressed their gratitude towards Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the warm reception and lauded PIPS for the successful organization of the workshop.
