NAB Launches Specialized Training to Combat Money Laundering

Islamabad: The Pakistan Anti-Corruption Academy (PACA), part of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), has initiated an extensive training program aimed at enhancing the skills of investigators and prosecutors in combating financial crimes. The Capacity Building Course (CBC-I) and an Intensive Mock Trial, launched under NAB’s Annual Training Plan for 2026, were inaugurated by Chairman NAB, Lt Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed. The training is designed to improve understanding of modern money laundering trends and legal techniques necessary for effective financial crime investigation.

According to Press Information Department, the program included presentations from leading experts, such as Deputy Chairman NAB Mr. Sohail Nasir, who discussed the Bureau’s updated procedures for handling money laundering cases. Dr. Ehsan Sadiq, Director General of the National AML/CFT Authority, provided insights into Pakistan’s compliance with FATF standards, while Mr. Muhammad Tahir, Director General of the Special Investigation Division, elaborated on asset tracing methodologies. Ms. Noor us Sahar, Deputy Director of the Financial Monitoring Unit, highlighted the use of financial intelligence in identifying suspicious transactions.

The training concluded with a workshop titled “Mock Trial of Leading NAB Money Laundering Cases,” facilitated by Additional Director Mr. Mohsin Ali Khan. This simulation offered practical experience in trial proceedings, enhancing the skills of participants. Chairman NAB emphasized the government’s commitment to fighting financial crimes and the importance of inter-agency coordination. He stated that the training cycle is designed to equip officers with tools to address global challenges in corruption.

Prosecutor General of Accountability Syed Ihtesham Qadir Shah praised the initiative, highlighting its role in professional development and adherence to principles of transparency and good governance. Director General PACA, Mr. Ghulam Safdar Shah, reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to aligning its curriculum with global standards in AML and CFT, ensuring Pakistan’s effectiveness in the international accountability arena.
