Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq today reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to combating climate change and advancing gender equality, highlighting the nation’s strategic efforts in promoting renewable energy and supporting sustainable development.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, speaking at the “Gender Empowerment and Green Economy” ceremony in Islamabad, Sadiq underscored the importance of integrating gender equality into the broader agenda of green economic policies. He marked the 30th anniversary of the Cairo International Conference for Population and Development Programme, celebrating Pakistan’s continued commitment to its goals through various legislative and policy initiatives.
The Speaker detailed the significant role of the Parliament in passing progressive laws that bolster gender equality, reproductive health, and sustainable development. He mentioned key parliamentary forums such as the Women Parliamentary Caucus, the Child Caucus, and the Young Parliamentary Association, which have been pivotal in this regard. Furthermore, Sadiq highlighted legislative advances addressing gender-based violence, workplace equality, and the socio-economic and political participation of women.
In terms of environmental efforts, Sadiq emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting forests and enhancing climate resilience as part of a broader investment in sustainable energy solutions. These efforts include policies aimed at preserving vital forest cover to ensure the sustainability of Pakistan’s natural resources.
