Islamabad: As monsoon season continues, minimal rainfall has been recorded across most of Pakistan in the last 24 hours, with the exception of light showers in Lahore, Sialkot, and Rawalakot. With hot and dry weather prevailing in the majority of the provinces, isolated rains are forecasted in specific regions over the next day.
According to National Disaster Management Authority, Lahore recorded a minimal 6mm of rain, Sialkot 3mm, and Rawalakot 5mm between the morning of September 5 and 6. The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates mainly hot and dry conditions across most provinces, with the exception of potential rain-wind/thundershowers in Tharparkar and isolated parts of Kashmir and the Potohar region in Punjab.
The NDMA has issued several advisories in response to the monsoon season, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and preparedness. These include regular updates via media channels and social media on monsoon risks such as urban flooding, landslides, and electrocution. Local disaster management authorities are urged to ensure early warning systems and prompt response capabilities are in place, particularly in areas vulnerable to sudden weather changes.
Additional guidance includes pre-placement of machinery for road restoration, standby arrangements for rescue operations by armed forces and NGOs, and public safety measures such as avoiding crossing nullahs during heavy rains and staying indoors during thunderstorms.
This proactive approach by the NDMA aims to mitigate the impact of the monsoon season and ensure public safety and infrastructure stability across the country.
