Minister Pledges Stability in Azad Kashmir Amid Tensions

Islamabad: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, emphasized that no actions would be tolerated that disrupt peace or incite uncertainty in Azad Kashmir. This was conveyed during a news conference in Islamabad, where he was joined by Azad Kashmir political figures Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan and Nabeela Ayoub. Dr. Chaudhry highlighted the importance of resolving issues through dialogue and reported progress on demands by the Joint Awami Action Committee.

According to Radio Pakistan, 35 of the 38 demands from the banned committee have been met, with the government open to discussions on the remaining demands. The committee’s request to abolish assembly seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees remains unresolved, as proposed solutions by the government, including taking the matter to a broader political forum or legal channels, were rejected.

Dr. Chaudhry detailed various implemented clauses of the agreement, which include the withdrawal of 170 legal cases, reinstatement of employees involved in protests, waiving of electricity bills for Mangla Dam affectees, and completion of a Kahuta-Azad Pattan Road feasibility study. Additionally, efforts to improve flour quality, internet services, and waste management systems have been enacted.

The Minister also noted the introduction of a concessional electricity tariff and other administrative updates, such as the scheduling of the Bank of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and establishment of new federal boards. Health and infrastructure initiatives, including the installation of medical equipment in hospitals and allocation of funds for electricity system upgrades, are underway.

Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan stressed the continuation of dialogue to resolve outstanding issues and underscored the historical context of refugees’ rights, while Nabeela Ayoub reaffirmed the enduring relationship between Azad Kashmir and Pakistan, cautioning against actions that could jeopardize the Kashmir cause.
