Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has emphasized the need for unity and cooperation among various political parties to address the longstanding issues faced by the city. In a recent press conference, he outlined the plans for the upcoming city council meeting, highlighting the decision to increase the number of committees to enhance problem-solving efforts.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab, during his address at the press conference held at Sabza Zar of the headquarters of Baldia Uzma Karachi, stated that the unanimously approved resolutions of the city council would be given priority to resolve critical problems such as water, sewage, gas, and electricity shortages. He thanked the opposition parties for acknowledging the seriousness of the city administration in resolving these civic issues.
The Mayor also noted that the city council meeting would discuss the non-supply of gas during cold weather and would consider a resolution demanding the federal government to speed up the construction work of the Red Line on University Road and the Green Line on MA Jinnah Road. Additionally, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) now has the authority to install its own property inspectors in every town of Karachi, a resolution approved by the city council.
In a show of solidarity with Palestine, the city council plans to rename the Gulistan Johar underpass. Mayor Wahab urged all parties to set aside their differences and work together seriously for the betterment of the city. He emphasized the importance of maintaining parliamentary traditions and respecting the sanctity of the ‘house’ during deliberations.
The Mayor also addressed the past issues of ‘china cutting’ on drains and parks, stating that nations must learn from past mistakes and take action against those responsible. He expressed confidence in the People’s Party, citing its support among the people of Sindh and its role during the Covid pandemic. Looking ahead to the elections, he anticipated that the People’s Party would surpass its previous seat count in the Sindh Assembly.
