Mayor Karachi’s Spokesperson Criticizes Hafiz Naeem’s Approach, Highlights PPP’s Development Efforts in Karachi

Karachi, Karamullah Waqasi, the spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi’s Political Affairs, has criticized Hafiz Naeem of Jamaat-e-Islami for his approach towards the city’s issues. Waqasi urged Naeem to reflect on the historical mistakes of his party before commenting on the problems of Karachi.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Waqasi pointed out that Hafiz Naeem has frequently raised concerns about various issues in Karachi, ranging from lack of powers to problems with electricity, gas, and water supply. He reminded Naeem of the time when Abdul Sattar Afghani from Jamaat-e-Islami became the mayor in 1979, a period that saw the rise of Kalashnikov culture and linguistic divisions in Karachi. Waqasi accused Jamaat-e-Islami of contributing to these problems and undermining the mandate of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) at that time.

The spokesperson also challenged Naeem to discuss the achievements of Jamaat-e-Islami’s previous mayors, Abdul Sattar Afghani and Nimatullah Khan, and to hold a press conference on this topic. Waqasi suggested that focusing on these historical aspects would be more politically beneficial for the people of Karachi.

Furthermore, Waqasi highlighted the performance of the PPP, under the leadership of Barrister Murtaza Wahab, the current mayor. He argued that Hafiz Naeem’s criticism stemmed from fear of PPP’s accomplishments in the city. He pointed out that despite Jamaat-e-Islami chairing nine of Karachi’s 25 towns, their performance has been negligible.

Waqasi emphasized the ongoing development work in Karachi under the PPP’s leadership, mentioning that the city is undergoing visible transformations. He credited the PPP-led administration for working at the grassroots level, stating that the progress reflects Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision for Karachi’s development, which is being implemented by Mayor Murtaza Wahab and his team.

The spokesperson concluded that PPP is committed to the development of Karachi and its people and is not deterred by political criticism. He asserted that the city is on a path of continual development, guided by the party’s vision and leadership.
