Islamabad: The Senate was informed on Tuesday that construction work on the M-6 Motorway, linking Sukkur to Hyderabad, is set to begin this year. The project, which is part of a broader plan to extend the route to Karachi, is a priority for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and is expected to significantly bolster the national economy upon completion.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan addressed the Senate during the Question Hour, emphasizing the strategic importance of the M-6 Motorway. The project aims to enhance connectivity and economic growth in the region.
Additionally, the Senate was updated on various other governmental initiatives. Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted efforts to promote sports among the youth, while Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar discussed the development of a comprehensive consular policy to support Pakistanis incarcerated abroad.
The legislative body also passed the National Commission on the Status of Women Amendment Bill, 2025. The bill, presented by Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, marks a step forward in addressing gender-related issues in the country.
In other discussions, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain assured that rice exporters are being supported to meet higher export targets compared to the previous year. Water Resources Minister Musadiq Masood Malik clarified the details of the Cholistan Canal project, confirming it will be constructed on the Sutlej River rather than the River Indus.
