Lahore: The Lahore-Sialkot Motorway will be expanded from two lanes to three lanes, following a decision made at a National Highway Authority meeting chaired by Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan. The meeting, held in Islamabad, also issued directives to expedite construction on the Sialkot-Kharian and Islamabad Motorway, which are to be developed as three-lane dual carriageways.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting also reviewed plans to enhance religious tourism by linking Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib directly to the Motorway network. These new highways will feature three lanes and high-standard safety fencing to ensure secure transit for pilgrims. Minister Khan emphasized that future Motorway projects will have no fewer than three lanes on each side, creating a six-lane configuration.
Additionally, Minister Khan instructed the National Highway Authority to accelerate work on the Sialkot-Rawalpindi motorway. He noted that the completion of this link would reduce traffic on the M-2 and improve travel between Lahore and Islamabad by shortening the distance by approximately 100 kilometers, saving commuters at least one hour of travel time.
