Lahore Collaborates with UK’s FCDO on Six Key Development Sectors

Lahore, Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, hosted a meeting with a delegation from the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), leading to an agreement on enhancing cooperation across six crucial sectors including health, education, social protection, air quality, local government, and revenue mobilization. This partnership aims to address and improve various systemic challenges within these sectors.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting focused on a detailed review of the existing challenges and prospective solutions in the agreed sectors. Chief Minister Sharif highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the provision of state-of-the-art health facilities across Punjab, offering extensive free medication in outpatient departments, and the impending launch of an air ambulance service. She also outlined efforts towards establishing a sustainable waste management system across 153 tehsils and creating authentic socioeconomic data for the province.

Further reforms discussed include improvements in industry, transport, agriculture, and municipal management to tackle environmental pollution. The Chief Minister assured that tax rates would remain unchanged while the administration aims to broaden the tax base and enhance transparency through third-party monitoring.

The British High Commissioner, Jean Marriott, lauded Chief Minister Sharif’s vision, particularly praising Punjab’s initiatives to combat environmental issues. The meeting was also attended by significant local officials including Senators, Ministers, and Assembly Members, underscoring the high-level commitment to these collaborative efforts.
