Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Accelerates Support for Journalists in Financial Need

Peshawar, In a decisive move to support journalists facing financial hardships, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Caretaker Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Barrister Feroze Jamal Shah Kakakhel, has instructed the swift processing of applications under the Journalists Welfare Endowment Fund Rules. This directive was issued during a meeting of the Journalists’ Endowment Welfare Fund Committee, which he chaired at the Civil Secretariat.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting, which included key figures such as Secretary Information and Public Relations Syed Jabbar Shah, Director General Information and Public Relations Muhammad Imran Khan, and representatives from various press clubs, focused on expediting aid to journalists in need. The committee was informed about the ongoing work on amendments to the fund rules, initiated based on decisions from a previous meeting.

Minister Kakakhel emphasized the importance of enhancing the unemployment and pension allowances to better support senior journalists who are unemployed and facing financial difficulties. Stressing the need for urgency, he reminded that this was the committee’s second meeting under his chairmanship, where applications for financial support from various journalists were approved.

In his address, Kakakhel acknowledged the challenging conditions under which journalists work and their significant role in promoting transparency in government affairs. He highlighted the government’s responsibility to care for journalists, especially those suffering from illness or weakness due to their professional duties, and urged that this support should not be delayed.

This initiative marks a significant effort by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to provide timely assistance to journalists in financial distress, reinforcing the crucial role of the media in society.
