Kashmiri Street Vendor Goes Missing in Delhi, Family Fears Abduction

New Delhi: A street vendor from the Sopore region of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir has been missing in Delhi since February 16, causing concern and distress for his family in Kashmir. Shabir Ahmad Shah, 36, traveled to Delhi to procure goods for his business and has not been heard from since, leaving his family without answers.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of the late Ghulam Nabi Shah, departed from his home in Neharpora, Sopore, on January 31, 2025, with the intention of purchasing shoes and other items for his street vending business. His family, including his wife Mumtaza, his brother, and his elderly mother, last communicated with him on the morning of February 16.

Mumtaza reported that her husband called her around 11:30 AM on February 16 while she was at a hospital. During the call, Shabir assured her of his imminent return and offered financial assistance if needed. However, the conversation was abruptly cut short, and no further contact has been made since then.

Despite the successful arrival of goods Shabir purchased in Delhi to his hometown on February 18 and 20, he remains untraceable, according to his family. The situation has sparked fears that Shabir may have been abducted by local groups during his stay in India.

The family has made urgent appeals to authorities, seeking assistance in locating Shabir and ensuring his safe return. Their concerns remain unresolved as they await any news regarding his disappearance.
