Karachi Mayor Targets Encroachments to Improve Traffic Flow and Pedestrian Facilities

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has declared an initiative to eliminate encroachments throughout the city in an effort to enhance traffic flow and improve conditions for pedestrians. He announced this plan during a tour of various city locales, where he was joined by Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Senior Director of Anti-Encroachment Ammar Khan, and other pertinent officials.

According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Mayor issued directives for the immediate removal of encroachments at multiple sites, including the dismantling of a temporary market near the Matric Board and the elimination of fruit and second-hand clothing stalls on both sides of the Teen Hatti Bridge.

Mayor Wahab stated that encroachments negatively impact the city’s image and create challenges for residents. While emphasizing that the Pakistan Peoples Party does not intend to cause unemployment, he noted that street vendors and stall operators should adhere to designated areas for their businesses.

He further remarked that as an international city, Karachi should feature well-maintained roads, organized streets, and public spaces, asserting that all encroachments within the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s jurisdiction will be cleared.

Additionally, the Mayor highlighted that the KMC is willing to offer business opportunities through public-private partnerships, supporting initiatives that foster both economic growth and urban development.

On the topic of sports, Mayor Wahab affirmed KMC’s full backing of the Champions Trophy matches being held in Karachi, expressing satisfaction that the city is hosting these events. He emphasized that the promotion of sports will inspire the youth, enhancing their performance and morale.
