Karachi Mayor Meets Iranian Consul General to Discuss Urban Development and Cooperation

Karachi, In a significant diplomatic engagement, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab met with the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Nourian, and Iranian First Consul Masoud Kian Bakhsh. The meeting, which took place in the mayor’s office, focused on issues of mutual interest, particularly in the realm of urban development and municipal cooperation.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab welcomed the Iranian delegation at the KMC head office, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran. He emphasized the countries’ shared religious, cultural, and brotherly relations, noting the strong trade and cultural links. The mayor pointed out the twin-city relationship between Mashhad and Karachi, underscoring the longstanding friendship between the two neighboring countries.

During the meeting, Mayor Wahab briefed the Iranian officials about Karachi’s local government system and the responsibilities of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). He expressed interest in learning from Iran’s experiences to improve Karachi’s urban system and provide maximum facilities to its residents. The mayor’s focus was on the implementation of an effective and comprehensive strategy by local authorities to enhance municipal facilities and improve basic infrastructure, especially in business and industrial areas.

Mayor Wahab also mentioned the joint efforts of KMC, district municipal administrations, and towns in carrying out developmental work across the city, aimed at promptly resolving the basic problems of the people.

The Consul General of Iran, Hassan Nourian, appreciated the ongoing efforts to improve municipal facilities in Karachi. He expressed his good wishes for the future and the potential for increased cooperation between Karachi and Iranian cities.

This meeting marks an important step in fostering bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in the context of urban development and municipal administration.
