Karachi Mayor Inaugurates Rs. 609 Million Jinnah Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has officially inaugurated the improvement and rehabilitation project of Jinnah Bridge in District Keamari, a significant endeavor valued at Rs. 609 million. The project, aimed at enhancing travel safety and convenience for commuters, includes the replacement of expansion joints and extensive asphalt work.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Member Sindh Assembly Asif Khan, Town Chairman Maripur Humayun Khan, members of the KMC City Council, town chairmen, elected representatives, and other officials. Speaking at the event, Mayor Wahab emphasized the ongoing efforts of KMC in upgrading Karachi’s critical infrastructure, highlighting that approximately 775,000 square meters of asphalt have been laid and 552 meters of expansion joints replaced on Jinnah Bridge.

The Mayor underscored the significance of Jinnah Bridge, referred to as the “Gateway to Pakistan,” in connecting the port to major highways. He noted the neglect in maintenance over the years and shared that repair work on both Jinnah and Netty Jetty Bridges was undertaken at a total cost of around Rs. 600 million. He also mentioned plans for an alternative route to ease congestion and called for federal support in addressing Karachi’s civic challenges.

In his address, Mayor Wahab stressed the need for major development projects in the city, citing the disparity in investment compared to other regions. He called for the National Highway Authority to permit heavy traffic on the Lyari Expressway to alleviate congestion. The Mayor also outlined various ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects, including sewage treatment plants and road developments, and reiterated the city’s commitment to continuous improvement under his leadership.
