Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed on Monday that the government has broadened its welfare, education, and housing initiatives for overseas Pakistanis and their families this year. The expansion includes financial assistance for destitute families of overseas Pakistanis in cases of death or disability, the provision of free ambulance services, and a funeral grant for needy families.

According to Radio Pakistan, Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Awn Saqlain elaborated during the Question Hour that financial support is available for families facing hardship due to the death or disability of an overseas Pakistani. Additionally, free ambulance services are offered for transporting human remains and critically ill individuals from international airports in Pakistan to their hometowns. A funeral grant of 25,000 rupees is provided to families in need.

Saqlain also mentioned that the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has linked its online complaint management system with the Pakistan Citizens Portal to ensure swift resolution of issues. Furthermore, OPF has established 27 educational institutions across the country, including in Azad Kashmir, and is developing a housing scheme in Rawalpindi exclusively for overseas Pakistanis.

In related developments, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry addressed the assembly about initiatives for women. Dedicated women’s facilitation desks have been set up at police stations in Islamabad to create a secure and supportive environment. These technology-enabled stations offer confidential services through trained female staff, and joint patrolling by male and female officers ensures comprehensive policing.

Chaudhry also noted that Safe City Islamabad maintains digital records of hostels, hotels, and guest houses. Additionally, the Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2026, was introduced in the House and referred to the Standing Committee for further deliberation. The National Assembly is scheduled to reconvene on Tuesday at noon.
