Islamabad: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Division Senator Ahad Cheema chaired a high-level meeting to review the development of Karachi Industrial Park, where the proposed land lease model and incentive framework, aimed at attracting export-oriented industries, were discussed as they approach finalization ahead of a planned early launch. The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to expediting the park’s development and prioritizing export-led growth.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting examined various development and investment models, including a proposed land lease package designed to attract industrial investment through competitive incentives. The framework will link land allocation and concessions to export commitments, ensuring the project contributes to Pakistan’s export growth. The Minister emphasized the need for accountability mechanisms in the framework to prevent misuse of industrial land and incentives.

Senator Cheema directed that the framework incorporate clear export performance obligations and include provisions for withdrawing incentives if commitments are not met. Officials briefed the Minister on prioritizing units with strong export potential, particularly those expected to export more than 50 percent of their production. The meeting also addressed infrastructure needs, with plans for federal coordination to ensure adequate water, gas supplies, and improved road connectivity.

The Minister assured that all necessary support would be extended at the federal level to facilitate the project’s development. He highlighted the importance of the park’s contribution to enhancing exports and reducing Pakistan Steel Mills’ liabilities. The meeting concluded with a call for coordinated efforts among authorities to transform Karachi Industrial Park into a productive industrial hub.
