Karachi, In a significant step towards healthcare accessibility, the JDC Foundation and philanthropist Shamim Shekhani signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a free cancer hospital in Karachi. The ceremony, held on May 16 at the Governor’s House, was presided over by Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori, who underscored the government’s commitment to supporting cancer patients regardless of their financial circumstances.
According to Sindh Governor House, the new facility, which is projected to cost 10 billion rupees, aims to remove the financial barriers faced by cancer patients and provide them with necessary care free of charge. Governor Tesori highlighted that the initiative represents a major public service, unmatched by other efforts in the region. He reassured that those worried about the financial burden of cancer treatment should reach out to the Governor’s House for support.
During the event, Governor Tesori also discussed other welfare initiatives, including the distribution of 470,000 ration bags with plans to distribute two million more to support underprivileged families. Additionally, he announced the names of beneficiaries under a new employment scheme designed to aid the youth and pledged that the Governor’s House would remain a beacon of hope and support for all citizens.
The ceremony also featured speeches by Ali Shekhani and Zafar Abbas, who are collaborating on this and other philanthropic projects, illustrating a community-driven approach to addressing critical healthcare needs in Sindh.
