Makkah: Islamic countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have expressed strong support for the newly established Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye. The agreement, aimed at enhancing collective security and defense cooperation, is seen as a significant step towards bolstering regional stability.

According to Radio Pakistan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the agreement’s focus on collective defense and its potential to strengthen joint security projects among the participating nations. He clarified that the agreement is not targeted against any nation and is open to other like-minded countries seeking peace and stability. President Erdogan expressed hope that the agreement would foster regional peace and stability.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan congratulated the three countries, describing the agreement as a milestone for regional peace and prosperity. He emphasized its role in addressing common threats to regional stability.

The OIC, led by Secretary-General Hissein Ibrahim Taha, also expressed its support, praising the leadership of the three countries in reaching the agreement. The Kingdom of Bahrain and Yemen similarly welcomed the agreement, highlighting its strategic importance and potential benefits for regional security. Yemen, in particular, noted the agreement’s significance in the context of security in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Somalia joined the chorus of support, with its Ministry of Defence stating that the agreement will help establish a strategic partnership to tackle common security challenges, thus promoting regional peace.

Sheikh Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, President of the Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, noted the special significance of the agreement being concluded in Makkah and welcomed its potential impact on regional stability.
