Islamabad High Court Allows CCP Inquiry Against Transworld to Proceed

Islamabad, The Islamabad High Court has dismissed a petition by M/s Transworld Associates (Private) Limited, thereby permitting the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) to continue its inquiry into allegations of abuse of a dominant market position by the company.

According to Competition Commission of Pakistan, the CCP had initiated the inquiry after suspicions arose that Transworld was potentially violating Section 3 of the Competition Act, 2010. Transworld had initially obtained a stay order against the CCP’s actions, which halted the inquiry temporarily.

During the court proceedings, the CCP was directed to issue a rectificatory letter to Transworld, clarifying the reasons for the inquiry as stipulated by the Supreme Court in the Dalda Foods Case. This case upheld the CCP’s powers to gather information and conduct inquiries as necessary for regulating competition in the market. The Islamabad High Court’s decision reaffirms the CCP’s authority to investigate and ensure compliance with competition laws.
