Islamabad, Care Taker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar chaired a crucial meeting in Islamabad on January 24, 2024, focusing on the significant issue of reducing the circular debt in Pakistan’s energy sector. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss and evaluate strategies to address this longstanding challenge.
According to Ministry of Energy, the meeting led by Prime Minister Kakar was a concerted effort to tackle the burgeoning circular debt in the energy sector, which has been a major concern for the economic stability of Pakistan. The session aimed at reviewing current policies and exploring innovative solutions to reduce the financial burden caused by the accumulated debt.
The discussion centered around various aspects of the energy sector, including the efficiency of power generation and distribution systems, tariff rationalization, and the potential of renewable energy sources. Karachi, In a significant step towards digital governance, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir, inaugurated several digital initiatives, including e-Services Sindh and e-Pay Sindh. These services aim to minimize human interaction and increase transparency and accountability in government dealings.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the launch event in Karachi marked the formal commencement of five digital services designed to ease public access to government services. These include e-Registration, e-Mutation, e-Pay Sindh, and the Industrial Estate Management System (IEMS). The Chief Minister emphasized that these initiatives would revolutionize the interaction between citizens and the Sindh government, offering a more accessible, faster, and efficient way to avail government services. e-Pay Sindh, a significant feature of the initiative, provides a digital payment option, enabling citizens to make secure and convenient payments for government services through various channels, including mobile devices, EasyPaisa, credit cards, debit cards, ATM machines, and banks. The introduction of e-Pay Sindh is part of the Sindh government’s commitment to integrating digital solutions into its service delivery.
The inauguration ceremony, held at a local hotel, witnessed the Chief Minister activating these initiatives by pressing a computer button. He shared that the Board of Revenue has introduced five revolutionary e-services, including the e-Services Sindh mobile app, available on Google Play Store and App Store. Initially, two departments have begun utilizing these services, with plans to expand to all departments gradually.
Justice Baqir also highlighted the benefits of e-registration for registered sale deeds and e-mutation for changes in land records. These services enable online applications, payments, biometric verification, and registration, streamlining processes and reducing the need for physical visits to government offices. The Sindh Cabinet has also directed the Board of Revenue to digitally rewrite land records within six months, integrating them with e-registration and e-mutation databases.
The Chief Minister underscored the transformative potential of these e-services, stating that they represent the beginning of Sindh’s journey towards a fully digital government. The e-Services Sindh App and other integrated digital apps will provide online access to a wide range of services, including domicile certificates, record of rights changes, inheritance certificates, agricultural passbooks, and land surveys.
The Chief Minister lauded the efforts of the Revenue Minister Younis Dhaga, Secretary Board of Revenue Dr. MB Raja Dhariju, and their teams for their hard work in making this project a reality. He reiterated that the e-Services Sindh initiative promotes not only convenience and efficiency but also transparency and accountability in government service delivery.
