Srinagar, The High Court in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has annulled the detention of a North Kashmir shopkeeper, Javaid Iqbal Khan, who had been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
As conveyed by the Kashmir Media Service, senior Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak, who represented the detained shopkeeper, informed the media about the court’s decision. He stated that Javaid, from the Nusu area of Bandipora, had been apprehended by the Indian police on purportedly fabricated allegations in May 2022 and subsequently detained under the PSA. Previously, Javaid had faced detention for other FIRs but had been released. At present, he is being held at the Agra Jail in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Following Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak’s arguments, Justice Sreedharan directed the pertinent authorities to release Javaid from Agra Jail. Notably, many Kashmiris, inclusive of Hurriyat leaders and activists, are being held in various prisons across India on allegedly groundless accusations.
