Karachi, In a decisive move to intensify the crackdown on organized crime, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon has mandated district police officers to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks in their jurisdictions. This directive was issued during a review meeting at the Central Police Office, where the performance of the provincial task force against crimes was evaluated.
According to Sindh Police, the meeting saw participation from senior police officials including the head of the task force, Additional IG Karachi CTD, and Task Force Secretary SSPAVLC. The latter presented a report detailing the operations conducted from April 29 to May 15, 2024, which resulted in 96 raids at the provincial level, leading to the arrest of 157 suspects involved in drug trafficking, and the manufacturing and distribution of illicit substances such as gutka and mawa.
The report highlighted significant seizures across Karachi, including 2.9 kilograms of hashish and large quantities of prepared gutka and mawa. Similarly, in the Hyderabad/Mirpurkhas Shaheed Benazirabad ranges, law enforcement officials conducted 38 raids, arresting 67 suspects and seizing nearly 200 kilograms of hashish and thousands of liters of illicit liquor.
In the Sukkur and Larkana ranges, police actions resulted in the arrest of 37 suspects and the confiscation of substantial amounts of heroin, hashish, and gutka, with several illegal factories being sealed and related vehicles impounded.
IG Memon commended the task force’s significant accomplishments within a short timeframe and underscored the need for sustained and focused efforts to eradicate criminal elements before the full-scale operation of the task force. He emphasized that negligence in crime control by district officers would not be tolerated, and that the Crime Branch must provide necessary guidance to improve the effectiveness of these operations.
Additionally, IG Memon called on the Special Branch to ensure a robust flow of information to support the task force’s objectives, highlighting the critical role of intelligence in preempting criminal activities and enhancing the overall security landscape of the province.
